Addressing the contemporary development issues and scopes, DEVCOM has always been inclined towards fostering and mobilizing thematic dialogues from time to time. These thematic dialogues offer a space for the stakeholders (Government representatives, UN Agencies, International NGOs, NGOs from District and Divisional level, Development Practitioners and Media Personnel) to gather knowledge from and learn through sharing with each other. These thematic dialogues are conducted by sector experts who share their ideas, from different segments of the development arena. Thematic dialogues are participatory and inclusive of all in nature. The space is opened up for an interactive exchange of views to take place, after hearing from the key speakers.
Upcoming Thematic Dialogue: Calendar
THEMATIC DIALOGUE-1 Recent Crisis and The Urgency of the New Strategy for the NGOs in Bangladesh |
During the past decades, the development agendas have shifted extensively, followed by the changing roles of donor agencies, which is not only trending in Bangladesh, but also transforming globally. The SDGs have made new targets for all the signatory countries, which needs to be achieved together by the Government of Bangladesh with the support of NGOs. With the growing crisis of displaced population from Myanmar, the humanitarian response by NGOs opened up a new era of interventions. On the other hand, with Bangladesh being declared a lower-middle income country, funding opportunities are shrinking rapidly. The recent (COVID-19) situation has created further crisis for the NGOs, thus gaping new opportunities These prospects need to be recognized by the NGO community leaders and utilized to rethink their mandates, align new strategies with the current trend of development, explore funding opportunities, mobilize local resources and redesign business models through an innovative value chain development process. All the stakeholders will be urged to share their experiences in this session following the opinions of development experts. |
THEMATIC DIALOGUE-2 Gender Equality and Women Empowerment: The Normal is New, The Violence Not |
The Bangladesh Government is committed to establish equal rights of women with men in all spheres of the state and of public life as part of a constitutional obligation under Article-28. However, till date women are in a worse situation due to fundamental social structure, norms and values. The current pandemic situation has created further threats for the women, all over the world, and also in Bangladesh. On April 3, 2020, the United Nations, referring to one of their earlier reports stated that “the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has identified that disease outbreaks affect women and men differently, and pandemics make existing inequalities for women and girls worse”. In such a situation, it is important for all stakeholders in the development sector including NGOs and Civil Society organizations to think about the ways to overcome this situation, also to integrate Gender component in all of their existing interventions. Gender Experts will talk in this session and the stakeholders will be able to share their learning, understanding and put forth the recommendations. |
