The Gender Inclusive Pathways Out of Poverty for Vulnerable Households in Cox’s Bazar (G-POP Project), Bangladesh, initiated a Gender and Social Inclusion Assessment and Resource Development process with the support of DEVCOM. World Vision Bangladesh (WVB), a Christian humanitarian organization is dedicated to the wellbeing of children, especially the most vulnerable children, their families and communities. The G-POP Project piloted a gender-inclusive Ultra-Poor Graduation (UPG) approach in the fragile context, where the rapid arrival of Rohingya refugees has further exacerbated existing vulnerabilities amongst the host community who were already living in poverty. The Project intended to support ultra-poor households to achieve a sustainable pathway out of poverty. One of the outcomes of the project is to improve social empowerment and promote gender inclusion for the ultra-poor households in Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazlia. To support this initiative, DEVCOM implemented the Gender and Social Inclusion Assessment and developed necessary Resources for World Vision Bangladesh and World Vision Australia.
As part of it, the following activities were conducted:
• A gender and social inclusion assessment was conducted to identify barriers women face in economic empowerment
• Two Soft skills training Modules (to build confidence, leadership development in relation to gender, child rights) were developed for the staff and targeted communities of World Vision Bangladesh so that they can provide support to the ultra-poor household members, especially women
• Trained project staff to increase community engagement to accelerate gender equitable relations in household and communities
• Developed need-based BCC (Behavior Change Communication) materials to increase awareness on women empowerment, male engagement and child rights (e.g. child labor, early-marriage) in ultra-poor households and community
• Trained staff and community facilitators to increase knowledge about the UPG program, followed by evidence-based monitoring and evaluation system.
