While migration fares as an important aspect to the development of Bangladesh, the framework for the sector still harbors areas that require attention for improvement. Bangladeshi migrant workers often face rights violation at various stages of migration, starting from the recruitment procedures, all the way to their working environments in Countries of Destination. In order to advocate for ensuring the safety and security of migrant workers, it is first necessary to look at the official frameworks in place for migration. Global Fund to End Modern Slavery, with the support of Department for International Development (DFID) is committed to advocating for migrants’ rights by assessing the current labor market in Bangladesh for overseas employment and providing recommendations to the Government of Bangladesh.
In order to develop program directives for GFEMS program To End Modern Slavery that directly pertains to the goals of the project: developing business scope on ethical terms to allow ethical recruitment practices to be upheld while reducing the cost of migration and commitment to policy advocacy. Under the project, DEVCOM conducted market level analysis of the overseas recruiting industry in Bangladesh. The findings from the research will be utilized to promote safe, orderly and ethical migration practices from Bangladesh.
