Helvetas implements the Strengthened and Informative Migration System (SIMS) project, which is a four year project mandated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), that seeks to improve the well-being of migrants, particularly marginalized men and women, through safer migration practices and strengthened service delivery from both public and private actors. In order to fulfill their objectives, Helvetas seeks the assistance of DEVCOM to develop a pre-decision making orientation (PDMO) manual for the aspirant migrant workers who are considering going abroad for working in their respective field and to build capacity of a pool of master trainers through the training of trainers’ (TOT) program. These master trainers are the nominated MNGO staffs of Helvetas who will ultimately orient targeted 100,000 beneficiaries (aspirant men and women migrant workers) in the community. Through PDMO, the aspirant migrants will be able to think about the social and economic cost of migration, and decide on profit and loss between going abroad and staying home along with their family members.
DEVCOM has provided their support to develop this PDMO manual and provided ToT to a pool of master trainers selected by MNGO staffs of Helvetas. As part of this initiative, Helvetas has conducted following activities:
- Analyzing the existing guidelines which form the basis of developing the manual for PDMO
- Ensuring a workable manual for SIMS through pre-testing and inputs feedback from field findings
- Developing master trainers among participants from MNGO nominated persons through ToT
